BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 7 (Xinhua)-- Brunei has recorded a major milestone with the launch of the first large-scale solar-powered shrimp aquaculture facility in the country on Monday near the Muara port town.
Jets Sdn Bhd, a shrimp aquaculture company has inaugurated the first net-zero emission shrimp aquaculture base and artificial intelligence (AI) Integration hub in Brunei.
The project represents a significant achievement in Brunei's ongoing efforts to advance the aquaculture industry, particularly through the revival of blue shrimp farming, a species known for its high nutritional and commercial value, said Abdul Manaf Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, on Monday.
He said the system highlights the synergy between generation of clean energy and sustainable aquaculture, whilst offering a blueprint for future farming systems that reduce dependency on fossil fuels and support Brunei's commitment towards net-zero by 2050. ■
