ULAN BATOR, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's central bank has purchased a total of 5.9 tons of gold from legal entities and individuals in the first six months of 2025, local media reported on Wednesday, citing a statement released by the bank.
The figure marks a 24.3 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2024, the bank said.
As of June, the average price of gold purchased by the Bank of Mongolia was 385,320.36 Mongolian tugriks (107,5 U.S. dollars) per gram.
Purchasing gold is one of the key ways for the central bank to ensure the country's economic stability by consistently increasing foreign currency reserves, said the bank.
According to the regulator, Mongolia's foreign exchange reserves stood at 5.206 billion dollars by the end of June 2025. ■
