KABUL, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Two commuters died and another sustained injuries due to a deadly road accident in northern Afghanistan's Faryab province on Tuesday, bringing the number of road mishap fatalities to 16 since the weekend, provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Abdullah Muradi said Wednesday.
The deadly mishap took place on Tuesday afternoon after a car struck a motorbike, killing two on the spot, and the driver was badly injured, the official said.
Blaming reckless driving for the accident, the official noted that a similar accident left two dead, including a child, two days earlier on Sunday in the province, while 12 more commuters had lost their lives in a series of road accidents in Faryab between Friday to Saturday.
Reckless driving on congested roads, lack of safety measures and using old-fashioned vehicles on damaged roads often lead to deadly mishaps in Afghanistan. ■
