YANGON, June 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,380 monastic education schools in Myanmar provided free education to 338,713 students in the 2025 Academic Year, state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Sunday, citing the Chair Sayadaw of the Monastic Education Supervisory Committee (Central).

These schools offer free education for monks, nuns, orphans, children from low-income families, and those in need, the report said.

Monastic schools aim to provide both basic and modern education at an affordable rate, regardless of social status, it added.

They also focus on teaching moral values, nurturing good citizens, promoting Myanmar cultural values, and guiding students in Buddhist teachings to help them live by core Buddhist principles and to preserve religion as a key part of the country's cultural heritage and personal identity, it said.
