KABUL, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A person lost his life and another sustained injury as flash floods swept through parts of eastern Afghanistan's Khost province on Friday, according to a local official.
Heavy rains triggered flash floods on the outskirts of the province's Nader Shahkot district, provincial government spokesman Mustaghfir Gurbaz told Xinhua, adding that preliminary information confirms the death of one resident and the injury of another.
The floods also caused heavy financial damage to local people, as dozens of residential houses, shops, and hundreds of acres of farmland and rural roads have been washed away or badly damaged throughout the province, said Gurbaz.
Meanwhile, torrential rains have triggered flash floods that have destroyed homes, swept away farmland, and wasted livestock in eastern Wardak province on Friday night.
Afghanistan's weather department has issued a warning of continued rainfall in the coming days, raising concerns about further flooding in vulnerable regions. ■
