KABUL, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police have destroyed 8,500 tons of illicit drugs, including heroin, over the past four years, local media outlet Tolonews reported Friday.
These drugs, including methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, opium poppy, hashish, and material used in manufacturing heroin, were discovered during a series of operations over the past four years, the report said.
According to the report, a total of 150,000 drug addicts have completed the rehabilitation process and reunited with their families across the country over the period.
The Afghan interim government has stepped up its crackdown on illicit drugs and those involved in the business, vowing to fight the menace until the country is free from poppy cultivation and substances used in the manufacturing of heroin. ■
