GABORONE, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Botswanan President Duma Boko has said the government remains committed to transparent, investment-friendly reforms and the vision for a diversified economy.
Boko made the remarks Thursday while meeting Chido Munyati, head of Africa at the World Economic Forum, in Gaborone, the capital of the southern African country.
Their discussions centered on Botswana's growing role in continental economic transformation and the importance of leveraging platforms like the World Economic Forum to amplify Africa's voice on the global stage, according to Boko's social media account.
"We explored opportunities for Botswana to collaborate more closely with the Forum on key areas such as digital inclusion, youth employment, green growth, and industrialization," said Boko, terming the talks as "a constructive and future-focused dialogue."
He said Botswana seeks to leverage its strategic geographical advantage and political stability as well as the credibility of its institutions and the predictability of its business environment.
Botswana is also pursuing digitalization of its economy, the Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) quoted the president as saying.
Boko said the country is also trying to move away from fossil-heavy energy mix to one where renewable sources account for 50 percent by the year 2030.
For his part, Munyati said the forum is particularly interested in Botswana's economic diversification policy and industrialization, expecting viable opportunities for partnership, according to BOPA. ■
