CANBERRA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Over 100 Australians have been evacuated from Israel on an air force jet, the federal government has confirmed.
The Australian government on Wednesday said that 119 people left Tel Aviv on board a Royal Australian Air Force KC-30 jet overnight after the airspace reopened.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers said that the government is working "very hard" to get Australians out of harm's way in the region but could not confirm if there would be another evacuation flight later on Wednesday.
He told Nine Network television that there are still thousands of Australians in Israel and Iran who have registered for government assistance to leave and that officials are working "around the clock" to take opportunities to get people out when they arise. ■
