BUDAPEST, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian health authorities have issued a Level 3 heat alert, the country's highest, for the entire territory from Tuesday through Thursday.

The alert, announced by the national chief medical officer, follows forecasts of persistently extreme temperatures that are expected to place significant physical and mental strain on the population.

This marks the first Level 3 heat alert issued in Hungary this year. Daytime temperatures during the alert period are forecast to peak between 34 and 39 degrees Celsius.

Health authorities warn that such intense heat causes the human body to lose water and essential minerals at an accelerated rate. To mitigate risks, experts advise the public to stay out of direct sunlight and avoid strenuous physical activity during the hottest hours of the day, typically between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

A Level 3 heat alert in Hungary is activated when the average daily temperature is forecast to reach or exceed 27 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
