COLOMBO, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The overall rate of inflation in Sri Lanka, as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI), has increased to 0.6 percent in May 2025, compared to -0.8 percent in April 2025, the latest data released by the Department of Census and Statistics shows.
The year-on-year inflation of the food group increased to 5.9 percent in May from 2.9 percent in April, data shows.
The year-on-year inflation of the non-food group increased to -3.4 percent in May from -3.7 percent in April, data shows.
In September 2022, Sri Lanka's inflation surged to 69.8 percent as the South Asian nation faced an economic crisis. However, inflation has been declining rapidly since. ■
