ISLAMABAD, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's top security body on Monday warned that Israel's ongoing aggression against Iran could trigger a broader regional conflict and undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The warning came during a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

The committee reviewed the evolving regional situation following Israeli airstrikes on Iran amid a constructive negotiation process.

"These actions risk triggering a wider conflict and reducing prospects for dialogue and diplomacy," the statement said.

The committee observed that the strikes constituted violations of international law and the UN Charter.

Reiterating Pakistan's consistent position, the NSC underscored the importance of regional peace and stability.

It affirmed Pakistan's continued engagement with relevant stakeholders and its readiness to support initiatives aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution.

The statement called on all parties to pursue a peaceful settlement through dialogue and diplomacy and emphasized the need for adherence to international human rights and humanitarian law.
