KABUL, June 21 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,247 Afghan refugee families returned to their homeland Afghanistan in a single day on Friday, according to the state-run Bakhtar news agency on Saturday.
The migrants returned from neighboring Iran and Pakistan, the media outlet reported, adding that all the returnees had received necessary assistance from government bodies at the crossing points before departing for their provinces.
Since Pakistan and Iran deport foreign nationals living illegally on their soil, hundreds of Afghans have returned to their homeland every day.
About seven million Afghan refugees have been living abroad. Reportedly, two million refugees, mostly from neighboring Pakistan and Iran, have returned to Afghanistan over the past year, while the host countries have asked undocumented refugees to return to their homeland. ■
