JAKARTA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) is exploring the option to reduce the number of shares in one lot to improve market depth, liquidity, and investor comfort, a senior official said on Friday.

Jeffrey Hendrik, director of development at the IDX, said that the current lot size of 100 shares could be reduced.

The IDX is currently conducting a study to evaluate whether to reduce the lot size, and this includes looking at how other major exchanges in Asia, Europe, and the United States handle their trading lot structures.

The exact timing of the potential policy change has not been disclosed, as the idea is still in the early stages of review.

Separately, IDX Director of Trading and Exchange Members Irvan Susandy said the exchange is surveying capital market stakeholders as part of the study.

The research on lot size reduction is being conducted alongside discussions on a possible extension of trading hours.

Irvan noted that reducing the lot size could lead to a higher trading frequency and improved services for investors.
