ISLAMABAD, June 18 (Xinhua) -- A special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight carrying 107 Pakistani nationals from Iran arrived in Islamabad early Wednesday morning, the PIA said in a statement.
The evacuation was necessitated by the closure of the regional airspace of Iran, forcing the stranded people to travel by land from Iran to Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat, from where the special flight was arranged, the statement added.
The Pakistani embassies in both Iran and Turkmenistan coordinated closely to facilitate the safe transit and return of the citizens, said the statement.
The conflict, which erupted with surprise Israeli airstrikes on Iran on June 13, have so far killed nearly 600 people in Iran and 24 in Israel, according to official tallies. ■
