KABUL, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Personnel of security forces have discovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition in eastern Afghanistan's Kunar province, reported the state-owned English newspaper The Kabul Times Daily on Wednesday.
The weaponry, which included seven stocks of Kalashnikov assault rifles, two hand grenades, more than 10,000 rounds of bullets and other military types of equipment, was discovered and seized during a series of operations in the province recently, the media outlet added.
Such operations are part of broader efforts to ensure national security, prevent illegal arms trafficking, and dismantle networks posing security threats to public safety, the newspaper added.
The Afghan interim government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs. ■
