DOHA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Qatar sought to reassure energy markets on Tuesday, saying gas supplies from the world's largest offshore field, which it shares with Iran, remain stable and uninterrupted despite rising regional tensions.

Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters in Doha that maritime navigation and energy exports are continuing without interruption.

"Operations are continuing without disruption," Al Ansari said during a weekly press briefing.

His remarks come as concerns mount over the security of regional energy infrastructure. Although he did not refer to any specific threats to the massive offshore field -- known as North Dome in Qatar and South Pars in Iran -- Al Ansari acknowledged the fragility of the situation.

"Qatar is prepared for all potential scenarios," he said, warning that any military escalation could have serious consequences for global energy markets. He singled out concerns over the security of Iran's nuclear facilities.

The South Pars/North Dome field in the Gulf is a critical source of natural gas for both Qatar -- one of the world's leading exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) -- and Iran.

Al Ansari also said Doha is actively engaging with all relevant parties, including the United States and the International Atomic Energy Agency, to prevent further escalation. He described Qatar's mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran as "progressing positively."
