MANILA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Personal remittances from overseas Filipinos reached 2.97 billion U.S. dollars in April 2025, 4.1 percent higher than the 2.86 billion dollars recorded in April 2024, the Philippine central bank said Monday.
"Personal remittances to the Philippines continued to grow in April of this year as remittances from both land and sea-based overseas Filipinos increased," the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said.
In January-April 2025, the BSP said cumulative personal remittances rose by 3 percent to 12.37 billion dollars from 12.01 billion dollars registered in January-April 2024.
With an estimated 10 million Filipinos living or working abroad, personal remittances remain a vital source of foreign exchange for the Philippines.
According to the Asian Development Bank, the Philippines is among the top 10 recipients of remittances globally. ■
