NEW DELHI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a bridge collapse in the western Indian state of Maharashtra has risen to four, officials said Monday.

The bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed on Sunday at Kundmala in Pune district, about 129 km southeast of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.

Officials said all missing persons have been accounted for, and the search operation in the river has ended.

The National Disaster Relief Force teams have called off their search efforts at the spot.

"The injured admitted to the hospital are undergoing treatment, and four people were killed in this incident," a local government official, Vikram Deshmukh, said. "We have not received any complaint of missing people, so the search operation in the river has been called off."

On Sunday, the collapse of the bridge injured 32 people, some of them critically.

According to officials, several people swept away by the strong current of water after falling into the river were later rescued by locals and disaster response force personnel.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday told the media that the iron pedestrian bridge on the Indrayani River had been declared dangerous by the district collector, and warning boards had been put up at the site.

However, on Sunday, dozens of people, mostly tourists, were on the bridge at the time of its collapse. Witnesses said the people fell into the swollen river.

Kundmala is a popular tourist destination and witnesses a high footfall during monsoons.
