PHNOM PENH, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported garments, textiles, footwear, and travel goods worth 6.13 billion U.S. dollars in the first five months of 2025, up 23 percent from 4.97 billion dollars over the same period last year, an official report showed on Monday.
Garments worth 4.21 billion dollars were exported during the January-May period this year, a year-on-year increase of 23 percent, said the report compiled by the Ministry of Commerce, adding that textiles worth 245 million dollars were shipped to international markets, up 22 percent.
Also, 842 million dollars worth of footwear was exported, up 37 percent, while travel goods and bags equivalent to 836 million dollars were sold to international markets, up 15 percent, the report added.
"The growth reflects Cambodia's sound economic performance amidst global complexities and uncertainties in political and economic aspects," Sun Mesa, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, said recently.
The garment, textiles, footwear, and travel goods sector is the largest foreign exchange earner for the Southeast Asian country.
The sector currently consists of roughly 1,538 factories and branches, employing approximately 913,000 workers, mostly female, according to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. ■
