ANKARA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan engaged in separate telephone discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday, urging a diplomatic resolution to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.

In his conversation with Putin, Erdogan characterized recent Israeli actions against Iran as instigating a "dangerous cycle of violence" that jeopardizes regional security. He asserted that the Israeli government's "lawless attitude" constitutes a significant threat to the international order and cautioned that "the region cannot tolerate another war."

The Turkish leader underscored that his nation has consistently prioritized diplomatic channels and reiterated that dialogue is the sole viable method for de-escalating tensions with Iran. He stressed the urgent need for negotiations to recommence.

Erdogan also expressed concern that the focus on the Israel-Iran conflict could divert international attention from the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He warned of the potential for Israel to employ tactics aimed at creating a fait accompli in the region. The Turkish presidency's statement noted that Putin concurred with Erdogan on the critical need to cease hostilities and create an opening for diplomacy.

During his call with the Iranian president, Erdogan detailed his diplomatic outreach to various world leaders concerning the conflict. He reaffirmed Türkiye's willingness to act as a facilitator to ease tensions and support a return to nuclear negotiations.

He emphasized the imperative of a swift cessation of hostilities and reiterated Türkiye's commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region.
