JAKARTA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is aiming to build a total of 1,100 fishing villages across the archipelago nation by the end of 2027, an official of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said on Monday.
The goal of the program is not only to focus on developing infrastructure and production facilities, but also to improve the welfare of coastal communities for a longer time, said Doni Ismanto Darwin, special staff to the minister of maritime affairs and fisheries, in a statement.
According to him, the ministry has received 910 proposals relating to locations that will be included in the program.
The ministry will build at least 100 fishing villages this year, and another 1,000 villages from 2026 to 2027. ■
