BAGHDAD, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani said on Thursday that Iraq supports a "fair and balanced" approach in ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, as efforts to revive dialogue between the two arch-rivals continue.

Speaking at a meeting with ambassadors and heads of Arab diplomatic missions in Baghdad, al-Sudani said such an approach could lead to "positive outcomes," according to a statement from his media office.

He warned that continued escalation would weaken prospects for resolution and reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to supporting agreements aimed at strengthening regional stability.

Al-Sudani also condemned Israel's military operations in Gaza, describing them as a major driver of regional instability. He cautioned against any moves that could drag the Middle East into further conflict.

His comments came as Oman announced that the sixth round of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran is scheduled to take place in Muscat on Sunday.
