HANOI, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Central Vietnam has been hit by widespread flooding following heavy rains brought by Typhoon Wutip, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported on Friday.

More than 800 houses in Da Nang city and Quang Nam province were inundated, while over 58,000 hectares of rice fields and crops across the region were submerged.

Hue city suffered the most serious flooding, with several streets within the historical Imperial City submerged under over 0.5 meters of water.

Six fishing boats were reported sunk or damaged in Quang Binh Province and Da Nang City, the report said.

Thousands of households in mountainous areas of Quang Tri province have been evacuated from landslide-prone zones, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Approximately 20 flights to and from the central region have been delayed or canceled due to the first typhoon of the year.
