RIO DE JANEIRO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Mineiro extended its unbeaten league run to eight games with a 2-0 home win over Internacional in Brazil's Serie A championship on Thursday.
Defender Vitao scored an early own goal to hand the hosts the lead before Junior Santos sealed the result with a stoppage-time strike. The victory lifted Atletico to seventh in the 20-team standings, while Internacional slipped to 17th, nine points behind.
Atletico has not lost in the top flight since a 2-0 defeat at Santos on April 16.
Meanwhile, Argentine striker Pablo Vegetti continued his prolific scoring form as Vasco da Gama won 3-1 at Sao Paulo.
Rayan and Nuno Moreira put Vasco 2-0 up before Vegetti added a third in the 69th minute, taking his 2025 tally to 19 goals from 31 games across all competitions.
Ryan Francisco pulled a late goal back, but Sao Paulo slumped to a third straight defeat. Vasco climbed to 13th with 13 points, one ahead of Sao Paulo.
Elsewhere on Friday, Gremio drew 1-1 at home with Corinthians, Santos won 3-2 at Fortaleza, Cruzeiro and Vitoria played out a goalless draw and Bahia beat Bragantino 3-0 away. ■
