KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The sales value of the manufacturing sector in Malaysia rose 4.8 percent year-on-year to 160.6 billion ringgit (37.88 billion U.S. dollars) in April, official data showed Wednesday.
The growth was mainly contributed by the food, beverages and tobacco sub-sector, which registered double-digit growth of 11.1 percent in April, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
This was accompanied by steady growth in the electrical and electronics products, and the non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products sub-sectors, which expanded by 9.8 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.
Compared to the previous month, the sales value dropped by 2.3 percent from 164.3 billion ringgit recorded in the prior month.
Throughout the first four months of this year, the sales value of the manufacturing sector amounted to 636.2 billion ringgit, which increased by 4.2 percent as compared to the same period of 2024. (1 ringgit equals 0.24 U.S. dollar) ■
