YAOUNDE, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Sports minister of the Central African Republic (CAR), Rodolphe Heritier Doneng Wanzoumon on Tuesday suspended the president of CAR football federation, his three deputies and secretary general for six months following months of crisis between the government and the federation.
In a statement, Doneng Wanzoumon said the officials have been suspended for various reasons including violating cardinal values of sports, refusal to obtain permission from government permission for the national men's football team to leave for FIFA Day and refusal to provide administrative and financial accounts of the activities of the federation.
"(The officials) are strictly prohibited from representing the country in sporting activities at the national and international levels, at the risk of prosecution in accordance with the law," Doneng Wanzoumon said.
CAR FA has been embroiled in a crisis since January after the country's sports minister appointed Rigobert Song, former head coach of Cameroon, as the new manager of the national men's football team.
CAR FA rejected the appointment complaining that it was "neither involved nor consulted in the making of this decision."
The football federation has since been functioning without the government appointed coach. ■
