JAKARTA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Companies operating in Indonesia are encouraged to develop and implement technologies that align with measures to maintain environmental sustainability, an official said on Tuesday.
A university collaborating with four ministries launched an award on Tuesday to recognize and appreciate firms that comply with efforts to sustain environmental preservation in their business activities, said Jamaluddin Jompa, rector of Hasanuddin University.
The university is collaborating with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, the official said.
"This is an innovative initiative to give special recognition to companies that have introduced environmentally friendly technological innovations," he said.
The rector said that Hasanuddin University is committed to contributing to environmental protection, emphasizing that business and sustainability programs must go hand in hand.
"We aim to expand the economy, which is crucial for people's welfare, while continuously advancing technology development," he said.
The award, called the InTechSEA Award, focuses on several key areas including renewable energy, waste management, disaster response, environmental conservation, and biodiversity. ■
