ULAN BATOR, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia received the highest number of foreign tourists in May 2025, with a total of 66,360 visitors, local media reported on Friday, citing data from the Mongolian Tourism Organization.
This surpasses the previous record of 60,898 set in May 2024, the data showed.
Currently, Mongolia's economy relies most heavily on the export of mineral resources. Tourism promotion is considered one of the priorities for diversifying the country's economy and increasing the competitiveness of its tourism in the context of global competition.
In view of this, the Mongolian government has decided to continue the "Years to Visit Mongolia" tourism program until 2028.
Last year, the landlocked Asian country attracted a total of 727,400 foreign tourists and generated 1.6 billion U.S. dollars from the tourism sector, marking an all-time high. ■
