KABUL, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Police have taken into custody two suspected armed men in northern Afghanistan's Faryab province, said a statement from the provincial police office on Thursday.
During the search operations, police discovered one Kalashnikov assault rifle, two pistols and other military types of equipment, the statement said, adding police won't allow anyone to carry arms and disrupt law and order.
Police also found fake national identity cards in their possession, the statement added, without providing more details.
As part of efforts to ensure security, the Afghan interim government has collected thousands of pieces of arms and ammunition and warned of dire consequences if anyone carries arms illegally. ■
