MOSCOW, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Several trains were temporarily suspended in southwestern Russia's Voronezh Region after a blast damaged a section of the railway, local authorities said Thursday.

The damage was caused by an explosive device just moments before the passage of a train, Russia's Federal Security Service said in a statement.

The train driver and crew detected the track damage and applied emergency braking, with no injuries reported, the statement said.

The damaged railway tracks have been repaired and opened for traffic, said Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev, who shared the update on Telegram.

Due to damage to the railway track, 21 passenger trains were delayed, Russian railway authorities said.

The Russian Investigative Committee said on Telegram that a criminal case on charges of terrorism has been opened to investigate the incident.
