KABUL, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's counter-narcotics police have seized more than 1 ton of illegal drugs, including 148 kg of opium poppy and 774 kg of a variety of objects used in manufacturing heroin, in southern Kandahar province, provincial police spokesman Assadullah Jamshid said Thursday.
Police have also taken into custody 12 individuals on the charge of involvement in the black business, the official said.
During the drive against illegal drugs, the counter-narcotics police also destroyed poppy and hashish farms on 1.5 acres of land elsewhere in Kandahar.
Earlier, police also reported the discovery of illegal drugs including 105 kg of crystal meth, ice (methamphetamine), heroin, and other illegal objects used in manufacturing heroin in western Herat province on Wednesday. ■
