BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Brunei hosted an international conference to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Brunei's Fatwa Institution, local daily Borneo Bulletin reported on Tuesday.

The conference was held in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, with over 200 participants. Brunei's Fatwa Institution was founded in the 1960s as a division within the Department of Religious Affairs, and has since grown to become a vital pillar in the country's religious administration.

The Fatwa Institution remains a cornerstone of Brunei's religious life. It not only provides authoritative rulings on religious matters but also contributes to national policy and social stability, said Brunei's Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the deputy sultan.

He underscored that the theme of the conference was highly relevant to current realities, especially in discussing the needs of the school of thought in facing the tide of technological modernization.

Brunei is a Southeast Asian country located in the northern part of Borneo Island. The sultanate is a major oil and gas producer in Southeast Asia, which has enabled the development of its comprehensive social welfare system.
