HANOI, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Individuals who head agencies or units where corruption or wastefulness has occurred will not be nominated as candidates for the 2026-2031 term of the National Assembly (NA) and People's Councils at all levels, the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam announced on Tuesday.
The statement was part of a newly issued Politburo directive guiding the preparation and leadership of the upcoming election.
According to the directive, individuals currently under inspection or investigation for signs of violations will also be excluded from the list of candidates.
Vietnam's national election, scheduled for March 15, 2026, will elect deputies to the 16th NA and members of People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. ■
