JAKARTA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Bali resort island, the center of Indonesia's tourism industry, from January to April expanded by 10.55 percent to 2.04 million people year-on-year, a senior official said on Tuesday.
On a monthly basis, the number of holidaymakers coming to the island grew 25.56 percent to 591,221 people in April, said Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan, head of the statistics agency in Bali province.
Annually, the figure in April grew by 17.49 percent, he said.
"If we look at the tourism sector, we see that the numbers of foreign tourist arrivals are very good, and not only increasing on a monthly basis, but the cumulative figure by April also rose," Gede said.
Australia was the most contributive country to the foreign tourist arrivals in Bali Island in April, followed by India, China, England, and France, according to the agency.
The Indonesian government aims to attract 14 to 16 million foreign holidaymakers this year. ■
