SOFIA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's first edition of Kids Expo, a large-scale exhibition for children and families, kicked off Thursday on Aleksandar Nevsky Square in central Sofia.
Supported by Sofia Municipality, the four-day expo brings together education, culture, sports, technology, and entertainment in one open-air venue, with free admission.
Visitors can explore exhibits featuring national and municipal institutions, including the police, fire department, emergency medical service, and the Ministry of Defense, which demonstrate their equipment and practical skills.
The sports area offers various activities such as football, karting, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, and climbing, with appearances by popular Bulgarian athletes.
The cultural and educational sections highlight schools, kindergartens, and children's clinics, while the entertainment area offers stage performances, music, dance, and creative workshops.
Among the attractions were a remotely operated bomb disposal robot from the Specialized Counter-Terrorism Unit, drones promoting the Bulgarian Air Force Academy, and a fire truck, where children can use a genuine fire hose to spray water at skittles.
There was also a children's sandpit, approximately 20 square meters in size, sponsored by one of the country's largest construction groups. Children can play with plastic models of excavators, trucks, and other construction machines. ■
