ZAGREB, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Croatia will continue to offer "firm and strong" support for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on its journey toward European Union (EU) membership, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Thursday.

"There is no greater ally and advocate of Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path than Croatia," Plenkovic told journalists in Zagreb. He expressed confidence that Croatia's role as a sincere supporter of BiH's EU aspirations will soon be more widely acknowledged by political leaders in the neighboring country.

The European Council decided last year to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking a significant milestone in the country's EU integration process.

The Croatian government has long championed BiH's EU membership. Analysts note that this position reflects both strategic interests and deep-rooted ties between the two nations. Croats are the third-largest ethnic group in BiH, and Croatia shares the longest land border with the country. The two states are linked not only by geography but also by historical, cultural, and economic connections, making BiH's progress toward the EU a matter of shared importance.
