MUSCAT, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian began a two-day official visit to Oman on Tuesday, meeting Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and overseeing the signing of a series of bilateral agreements, as Muscat continues its role as a mediator in indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington.
The two sides signed five cooperation agreements, 10 memorandums of understanding (MoUs), and three executive programmes during a ceremony at Al Alam Palace, Oman's state news agency (ONA) reported.
Pezeshkian arrived in Muscat earlier on Tuesday at the invitation of the Omani leadership, according to ONA.
Iran's state news agency IRNA said Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Oman for its "active and constructive role" in facilitating the negotiations with the United States.
"We appreciate the efforts of our friendly and brotherly nation, Oman, in mediating the negotiations, and we hope this process leads to favorable outcomes," he said during talks with the Omani sultan.
Oman has mediated five rounds of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States since April, seeking to ease tensions and revive diplomacy over Tehran's nuclear program. ■
