TOKYO, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese government has called on the country's universities to consider accepting affected Harvard students after the U.S. federal government's policy banning Harvard from enrolling international students.

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology emphasized that Japanese universities should explore possible support measures to help the affected students continue their studies.

The University of Tokyo is reportedly considering the temporary acceptance of affected Harvard students. Approximately 260 Japanese students and researchers are currently enrolled at the university, local media reported.

Although Harvard has filed a lawsuit against the federal government, and a federal judge in Massachusetts has temporarily blocked the ban, the policy's implications continue to alarm current and prospective international students across the United States.

Concerns are also rising among international students who are currently studying at, or planning to attend, other U.S. universities beyond Harvard.
