KABUL, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,066 Afghan refugee families have given end to refugee status and returned to their homeland Afghanistan in a single day on Tuesday, reported the state-run Bakhtar news agency on Wednesday.
The former refugees who returned from the neighboring Pakistan and Iran have received necessary assistance from the Afghan interim government, the state-owned media outlet further said.
Earlier on Sunday, 480 Afghan refugee families, according to the Bakhtar news agency, returned to their homeland Afghanistan from the neighboring Pakistan and Iran, while 3,300 more refugees returned home some 10 days ago.
About 7 million Afghan refugees have been living abroad, and reportedly, two million refugees, mostly from the neighboring Pakistan and Iran, have returned to their homeland Afghanistan over the past year, while the host countries have asked undocumented refugees to return to their homeland. ■
