KABUL, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotic personnel have smashed poppy farms in northern Baghlan province, a local police official reported on Monday.

The law enforcement operation regarding these illicit crops was conducted on the outskirts of Nahrin, Khost, Dehsalah, Bano, Doshi, Burka and Balahesar districts of the province, said Qari Abdul Ghayour Khadem, provincial police commander.

Without providing more details, the official noted that police will not allow anyone to cultivate poppy or any other illegal crops in the province.

In the drive against illicit drugs, the police in the northern Badakhshan province arrested two individuals linked to the illegal purchase and trafficking of drugs, seizing 12 kg of opium from their possession, the Ministry of Interior Affairs reported on Sunday.

In April 2022, the Afghan interim government banned the cultivation of illegal crops, including poppy and hashish, as well as drug processing and trafficking.
