PHNOM PENH, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has dispatched six top athletes to contest at the ninth Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship in Amman, Jordan, said a news release from the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia on Wednesday.

Three male and three female Ju-Jitsu fighters left the capital Phnom Penh on Tuesday night for the regional games, which will be held from May 22 to 27, the news release said.

Thong Panhathun, acting president of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Cambodia, said the annual event was important for Cambodian athletes to show their capacity and strength on the international stage.

"It's a good chance for our athletes to compete with some of the Asia's best athletes," he said.

Coach Jasper Martijn Paas said, "If our team performs well this time, it will raise high hopes for gaining gold medals at the SEA Games in Thailand in December 2025."

At the eighth Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates last year, Cambodia earned five bronze medals.
