KATHMANDU, May 21 (Xinhua) -- American climber Andrew Ushakov has become the fastest person to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma from the Nepali side in less than four days, the expedition's organizer said on Wednesday.
Ushakov set a new record by scaling the world's tallest peak from sea level in just three days, 23 hours and 7 minutes, Elite Exped wrote in a post on Instagram.
The American started his expedition in New York at 00:30 on May 15 and flew to Kathmandu and then to the Base Camp and stood on the summit with his team at 09:22 on May 19, read the post.
A businessman by profession, the climber started climbing in 2020, according to Elite Exped.
Nepal's Department of Tourism has not learned of Ushakov's feat, however.
"I am not in a position to say whether such a record has been set," Himal Gautam, director at the department, told Xinhua. ■
