OSLO, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Norway will allocate an additional 4.5 billion Norwegian kroner (440 million U.S. dollars) to support Ukraine's energy sector in 2025.

The announcement came during Crown Prince Haakon's visit to Ukraine on Tuesday, where he was accompanied by Minister of Energy Terje Aasland. The delegation toured key infrastructure sites, the Norwegian government said in a statement on Wednesday.

Since 2022, Norway has contributed approximately 6.2 billion Norwegian kroner to Ukraine's energy sector. These funds have been used to secure gas supplies, restore damaged power grids and infrastructure, and promote decentralized energy production. Part of the assistance also supports nuclear safety measures at Ukrainian nuclear facilities.

In 2024, Norwegian company Bergen Engines won an international tender to supply generators for electricity production in Ukraine's Dnipro region.

"Energy is a crucial factor in keeping Ukrainian society functioning. Therefore, energy security is a top priority in Norway's support (to Ukraine)," said Aasland.
