BUENOS AIRES, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Walter Mazzantti scored a first-half winner as Huracan advanced to the semifinals of Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Sunday with 1-0 victory at Rosario Central.
Mazzantti put his side ahead in the 21st minute by meeting Cesar Ibanez's cross from the left wing with a diving header at the far post.
The visitors survived a tense second half in which goalkeeper Hernan Galindez made a series of fine saves to deny the home side.
It was just the second league defeat this year for Rosario Central, which finished the regular season top of Group B, four points ahead of second-placed River Plate.
"We're ready to fight for important things," Ibanez said after the quarterfinal duel. "We've put together a great team and we were able to overcome a very difficult opponent today."
"But we want more. Last year we came very close to reaching the final and that has made us even hungrier to keep competing and go as far as we can in the competition."
Huracan, which ended the regular season fourth in Group A, will meet the winner of Monday's quarterfinal clash between Boca Juniors and Independiente in the semifinals next weekend. ■
