KABUL, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank has reopened its office in Kabul and is set to resume the disbursement of nearly 50 million U.S. dollars it owes to the logistic and construction firms in Afghanistan, said a statement of the country's Finance Ministry on Monday.

Several international institutions including the World Bank have suspended their financial assistance to Afghanistan following takeover of power by Taliban in August 2021, leading to the halt of numerous development projects in the war-torn country.

Following the continued and constructive negotiations between the finance ministry officials and the World Bank's representatives, the leading financial agency reopened its office, the statement said, adding the repayment would be made in four phases.

In the first phase, the World Bank would deliver 10.8 million dollars and the remaining 39.11 million dollars would be repaid in the next three installments, said the statement.
