KABUL, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Three commuters lost their lives and 12 others were injured in two separate traffic accidents in east Afghanistan's Logar province on Friday, a local police official said on Saturday.
The first road mishap took place late Friday in the provincial capital, Pul-e-Alam City, when two vehicles collided, killing three passengers, including two women and a child, on the spot and injuring eight others, Mawlawi Ahmadullah Anas, the provincial police spokesman, told Xinhua.
In the second incident, at least four people were injured when a speeding motorcycle lost control, left the road, and ran over several pedestrians in the province's Mohammad Agha district on the same day, said Anas.
The official blamed reckless driving for the incidents, adding that all the injured were taken to nearby health centers, and several are reported to be in critical condition.
Thousands of people lose their lives in road accidents in Afghanistan each year due to reckless driving on congested roads, poor road conditions, lack of traffic signs on dilapidated highways, overloading and speeding. ■
