KABUL, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested a drug smuggler and discovered 9 kg of hashish in his possession in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province, provincial police spokesman Tahir Ehrar said Friday.
The alleged smuggler was attempting to smuggle the contraband out of Alishir district but police identified and arrested him for investigation, the official added.
In the drive against illegal drugs, the police have also confiscated 616 kg of opium poppy and other objects used in manufacturing heroin in the southern Kandahar province and arrested nine alleged smugglers over the past week, the police said. ■
