SINGAPORE, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Two people were taken to hospitals and around 30 others evacuated after a fire broke out in a residential building in central Singapore on Wednesday night, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said on Thursday.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident at around 10:50 p.m. local time (1450 GMT) and arrived to find the living room of a 10th-floor unit ablaze, the SCDF said in a Facebook post.
One person in a bedroom was assessed by a paramedic for smoke inhalation and burn injuries, while another resident from a unit on the 14th floor experienced breathlessness. Both individuals were taken to hospitals.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire likely originated from the battery of a personal mobility device in the living room.
The SCDF reminded the public to avoid purchasing or using non-original batteries for their mobility devices and warned against prolonged or overnight charging, citing fire safety risks. ■
