BANGKOK, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The international industrial part-sourcing exhibition and business-matching event, SUBCON Thailand 2025, commenced here on Wednesday, bringing together over 200 manufacturers and 70 major buyers from 13 countries and regions.

The annual event, jointly hosted by Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI), served as a crucial platform for local manufacturers to connect with global supply chains, reinforcing the Southeast Asian country's position as a leading regional hub for industrial parts procurement and subcontracting.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Pichai Chunhavajira said the Thai government is actively pursuing a policy to bolster strategic industries, such as electric vehicles (EVs), semiconductors, smart electronics, and clean energy, to strengthen domestic supply chains and improve the kingdom's long-term competitive edge.

Ongoing efforts focus on attracting investment, advancing technology, developing a skilled workforce, and upgrading infrastructure to facilitate the global shift toward greener and digital economies, Pichai said.

BOI secretary-general Narit Therdsteerasukdi emphasized the importance of a resilient domestic supply chain, with small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and local suppliers playing a key role in future industries.

This 19th edition of the event featured targeted business matching activities, sourcing events, and a dedicated xEV sourcing zone, where tier 1 suppliers display their procurement needs, Narit told the opening ceremony.

He noted that the four-day exhibition is expected to foster part procurement, subcontracting, technology transfer, and joint ventures between Thai suppliers and international companies, with business negotiations anticipated to surpass 8,000 meetings, generating a supply chain value of over 20 billion baht (about 598.56 million U.S. dollars).
