VIENTIANE, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Laos is working with a development partner to enhance reproductive health and sexual rights services through new mechanisms, to benefit over 500,000 people in the remote areas of northern Lao provinces of Bokeo and Luang Namtha.

The project titled "Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights Promotion with New Mechanisms" was launched in the Lao capital, Vientiane, on Monday.

Funded by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the project will run from 2025 to June 2028.

The project will span eight hospitals, 70 dispensaries, and 303 villages across two provinces, aiming to reach 512,500 people, 85 percent of whom are ethnic minorities residing in remote, mountainous areas, Lao News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The project aligns with the country's national policies on reproductive health, family planning, and child well-being. It also promotes gender equality and sexual and reproductive rights, ensuring equitable access to quality health services for women, girls, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities.

Additionally, the project aims to strengthen local health systems, empower community participation, and ensure equitable access to reproductive health and rights services across the two target provinces.
